Recycled & Eco-Friendly Custom Medals

Eco-Friendly Medals That Still Look Like Event Medals

Most "green" race medals fail for the same reason: they stop looking like a medal. Our approach is different. We keep the construction that makes a finisher medal worth keeping — die-cast weight, raised relief, enamel colour, a real ribbon — and change the inputs: recycled zinc alloy instead of virgin alloy, RPET ribbon instead of standard polyester, and laser-engraved wood where a natural finish suits the event.

Since 2008 our factory in Dongguan has produced medals for marathons, charity runs, school sports days, corporate recognition programmes and military ceremonies. Eco options are quoted from the same tooling, sample and QC process as every other order — they are an option in the same production line, not a separate product with separate lead times.

Where the Sustainability Actually Comes From

A medal has three parts that can be made more responsibly: the metal disc, the ribbon, and the packaging. Each one is a separate decision, and each one changes cost differently — so we quote them separately rather than selling a vague "eco medal".

Recycled zinc alloy

Die-cast medals made from recycled zinc alloy. Same shapes, relief depth and plating range as our standard zinc medals, with the alloy specification confirmed in writing before tooling.

RPET ribbons

Ribbons and lanyards woven from recycled PET, printable by screen print or dye sublimation with your logo, sponsor marks and finish-line text.

Wooden medals

Laser-cut, laser-engraved wood for eco races, trail events and school sports days. A natural finish that photographs well and packs light for shipping.

Material and coating compliance

Plating and enamel materials are supplied against RoHS and REACH requirements. See our compliance page for what we test and what we document.

Recycled Zinc vs Wood: Which Suits Your Event

The two options are not interchangeable, and choosing wrong is the most common mistake on eco briefs. Use the table below as the starting point; we confirm the final specification against your artwork.

Decision Recycled zinc alloy medal Wooden medal
Detail level 3D relief, fine text, cut-out shapes Laser engraving; single-tone mark, simpler shapes
Colour Soft enamel, hard enamel, imitation hard enamel, UV print, full plating range Natural wood tone; painted fills possible on flat areas
Weight and feel Heavy, metal in hand — the expected finisher-medal weight Light, warm, tactile; reads as craft rather than metal
Best for Road races, charity runs, corporate and military programmes Trail runs, eco-themed races, school sports days, wellness events
Ribbon Standard polyester or RPET ribbon, printed or plain RPET or standard ribbon on request

Finishes and Colour Options

Eco material does not narrow your finish. Recycled zinc alloy medals take the full plating range — shiny gold, shiny silver, bronze, antique gold, antique silver, antique bronze, black nickel and dual plating — and the same enamel fills. For events that want the eco story to be visible rather than implied, a natural or matte finish on wood and a single-colour RPET ribbon usually reads more clearly than a high-polish medal.

Packaging and Plastic Reduction

Packaging is where a lot of the plastic in a medal order actually sits. Standard packing is individual poly bags; presentation options include velvet pouches, presentation boxes and custom backing cards, and we can quote paper-based or reduced-plastic packing per project. Tell us the requirement at quotation stage — packing is quoted with the medals, not added afterwards.

How to Order Eco-Friendly Medals

Send your artwork, logo or even a rough sketch to sales@sinoawards.com or WhatsApp, and tell us which parts of the order need to be eco: the medal body, the ribbon, the packaging, or all three. We return a digital proof and a quotation that separates the eco components from the standard ones, so you can see exactly what each choice costs.

  1. Send your design and eco requirement — which parts must be recycled or natural.
  2. Review the digital proof — layout, size, plating, enamel colours.
  3. Confirm the specification — alloy or wood, ribbon material, packaging.
  4. Production and QC — standard 10–15 working days after approval.
  5. Packing and shipping — air express or sea freight depending on the event date.

Why Order From Sino Awards

We are a manufacturer, not a reseller: tooling, die casting, polishing, plating, enamelling and assembly all happen in our own factory, which is why an eco specification can be adjusted without changing suppliers. Monthly capacity is close to 60,000 pieces, so a recycled alloy run and a standard run can be scheduled together. Every order includes a free digital proof, and we will tell you when an eco option is not worth the cost for your quantity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are recycled medals as strong as standard zinc alloy medals?

Recycled zinc alloy is die-cast and finished with the same tooling, plating and enamel process as our standard zinc alloy medals, so the relief detail, weight and surface finish are produced the same way. We confirm the alloy specification with you before tooling starts.

What percentage of the medal is recycled material?

It depends on the alloy batch and the project. We confirm the recycled content and alloy specification in writing with the quotation so you know what you are buying before production.

Can recycled medals still be plated and filled with enamel color?

Yes. Recycled zinc alloy medals take the same plating range (shiny gold, antique gold, antique silver, antique bronze, black nickel, dual plating) and the same soft enamel, hard enamel, imitation hard enamel or UV print fills as standard zinc alloy.

What is an RPET ribbon, and can it be printed?

RPET ribbon is woven from recycled PET, the same plastic used in drinks bottles. It can be screen printed or dye sublimated with your logo and event text, and it is available with the standard attachments we use on medal ribbons and lanyards.

Can wooden medals carry a printed ribbon and custom shape?

Yes. Wooden medals are laser engraved and cut to a custom shape, and they can be supplied with a printed ribbon. Laser engraving gives a single-tone mark, so fine multi-colour artwork is better suited to metal.

Is there a minimum order for eco-friendly medals?

Fully custom medals have no fixed minimum, and 100 pieces or more usually gets better unit pricing. Standard medal options that use an existing mould are usually around 50 pieces per design.
